A vast sea-dwelling dragon armoured in burnished bronze scales; hatchlings show a yellow-green hide that darkens with age, gaining a blue-black patina along every scale edge. Powerful swimmers, they roost in dry caverns reachable only through flooded passages. Bronze dragons are inquisitive and fond of thinking folk, preferring to drive off weak intruders with disorienting gas rather than slay them. In battle they hurl a long bolt of lightning. They befriend dolphins and whales for news of wrecks to plunder, and despise pirates and raiding sea-fiends. In play they make a reasoning boss who can be parleyed with, bribed, or recruited to a just cause.
Behavior
- Glides on broad wings, then dives and snatches prey from decks or shallows
- Swims and breathes underwater, cooling itself in the deeps between hunts
- Prefers to disable foes with repulsion gas before resorting to lethal force
- Blinds opponents with conjured fog, then charges or seizes them aloft
- Allies with sea mammals; harasses pirate vessels until they founder
- Keeps a dry hoard above the waterline, never beneath it
Abilities
- Lightning Breath. Exhales a narrow stroke of lightning along a straight line, scorching everything caught in it.
- Repulsion Gas. Breathes a cloud that compels creatures to flee and recoil for a short time.
- Storm Call. Summons squalls and rough water to becalm or batter ships.
- Water Mastery. Breathes water freely, swims swiftly, and is unharmed by electricity.
