A copper-scaled dragon of dry uplands and broken peaks, hatched ruddy brown and brightening to a warm metallic gloss, with a green cast appearing in great old age. Notorious tricksters and riddlers, copper dragons are proud and greedy yet seldom murderous, preferring to humiliate trespassers rather than kill them. They scramble up sheer rock with uncanny ease and reshape stone into open-topped mazes and pit-traps around their lairs. Their breath is either a slowing vapour or a searing jet of acid. Immune to acid, they hunt giant scorpions and venomous vermin, and squabble endlessly with red dragons over the high country. In play they are a cunning lair-boss who toys with intruders and respects a sharp wit.
Behavior
- Leaps and climbs over vertical stone faster than foes can follow
- Lures enemies into narrow gorges and collapses or reshapes the walls
- Mires opponents in softened rock, then crushes or carries them off
- Taunts and provokes prey into rash, foolish moves
- Conceals its cave mouth with shaped stone and twisting passages
- Spares creatures who amuse it with a fresh joke or riddle
Abilities
- Acid Breath. Spits a long jet of corrosive acid that burns flesh and temporarily corrodes armour, sapping its durability and briefly weakening it rather than destroying it.
- Slowing Breath. Exhales a vapour that leaves victims sluggish and clumsy.
- Stone Shaping. Warps and softens rock to build mazes, walls, and pits at will.
- Wall Climber. Clings to and sprints across sheer surfaces; immune to acid.
