The dragon turtle is the dread of open water, a colossal sea-reptile whose deep-green shell can span thirty feet and is patterned like light dancing on the waves. From beneath the surface it is easily mistaken for sun-glints, until its crested, dragon-like head rises and its jaws close on prey or hull alike. Fiercely territorial, it patrols miles of lake or sea, capsizing intruding ships by heaving up beneath them, then devouring the spilled crew. It guards a sunken hoard gathered from the wrecks it makes, and wise mariners pay tribute to cross its waters safely. Killing one is a naval campaign in itself, and its fire-proof shell yields the finest shields and armour known.
Behavior
- Swims powerfully; lumbers slowly on land
- Lurks in weeds and muck, waiting for prey or ships to pass
- Rises beneath vessels to capsize them, then snaps up survivors
- Defends a well-mapped territory and sunken treasure to the death
- Solitary, attacking even its own kind on sight
Abilities
- Scalding Breath. Belches a vast cloud of boiling steam; a partial dodge halves the damage.
- Capsize. Surfaces violently beneath ships to overturn them.
- Crushing Bite. Powerful jaws and claws tear through timber and flesh.
- Armored Shell. Its immense shell shrugs off blows, fire and steam alike.
