These colossal segmented worms bore endlessly through earth and stone, bodies as thick as a wagon ringed with bands of grinding muscle. A vast circular maw opens into rings of inward-curving teeth, and a keen sense of vibration guides the blind hunter toward anything that moves. The largest violet-hued tunnelers can swallow a standing warrior whole and bear a venomous stinger on the tail. A forest-dwelling caterpillar variant fights with acid-slick jaws and poison bristles, while a smaller pack-hunting type lunges from hidden burrows and chews through armor to reach the flesh beneath. An aquatic cousin lurks in shallow muck. As they tunnel they swallow rock, later excreting gems and raw ore in their wake.
Behavior
- Senses footsteps and digging through the ground at long range, then ambushes
- Drives its maw forward to crush, seize and gulp prey down whole
- Whips its tail to drive home a poisoned stinger
- Bristled and acidic kinds punish anyone who touches or strikes them
- Reshapes whole tunnel networks, leaving troves of ore in its leavings
Abilities
- Crushing Maw. Bites with a ring-toothed mouth strong enough to shear stone.
- Swallow Whole. A solid hit can engulf a victim, who must cut free from within.
- Venom Stinger. A tail strike that injects deadly poison.
- Acid Bite / Poison Bristles. Variant defenses that burn and paralyze attackers.
- Tremorsense Burrow. Tunnels swiftly through earth, tracking prey by vibration.
