Giant hornets and wasps are dog-sized insects with banded, armored bodies, four humming wings, and a barbed sting that pumps a searing venom. Giant hornets are largely solitary hunters, while their wasp kin gather in greater numbers; both build paper nests and defend them fiercely. A single sting drives in a potent venom that can leave a victim paralyzed. They hunt smaller creatures to feed their grubs and will carry off prey larger than themselves between several workers.

- Patrol the air around the nest and attack any intruder that comes too close

- Wasp kin attack in numbers; the giant hornet usually hunts alone
