The giant scorpion is an enormous version of the desert stinger, its green-black carapace armoured like plate and its segmented tail curled high over a glistening venom barb. It moves with an unnerving dry scrabbling and reeks faintly of its own poison. Almost anything that strays near is attacked on sight: the beast seizes prey in two great pincers, crushing and holding fast, while the tail darts forward to inject venom strong enough that a single sting can prove fatal. Smaller cousins haunt the same wilds and ruins, weaker but no less hostile. Burrows may hide clutches of eggs and the picked-clean leavings of past victims. In a survival game it guards desert ruins and rewards those who can sever or pin that deadly tail.

Behavior

  • Grabs prey in both pincers and crushes while holding it fast
  • Stings over the top with a venom barb, often fatally
  • Burrows lairs in sand or rock and drags kills home to feed
  • Attacks nearly any creature that approaches its territory
  • Falls into a frenzied flurry of stings when badly wounded

Abilities

  • Crushing Pincers. Clamps and holds a victim, grinding it steadily until it breaks free.
  • Venom Sting. A tail strike delivers poison strong enough to kill an unprotected target.
  • Armoured Carapace. Thick chitin turns aside most blows.
  • Burrower. Digs hidden lairs and ambush tunnels.

Drops & Crafting

  • Chitin plates (light shield and armour-crafting material)
  • Venom glands (potent poison for blades and traps)
  • Pincer claws (tool blades or hooks)
  • Stinger barb (needle or arrowhead)
