The giant squid is a colossal soft-bodied cephalopod, ten whip-like arms streaming from a torpedo torso that ends in a horned, beaked maw between two saucer eyes. Two arms steady it while the rest seize prey and feed it to the cutting beak. It hauls small boats under and crushes hulls.
The kraken is its dreaded elder kin: a mountain of muscle and intellect that rules whole stretches of dark water, sinks ships at will, and clouds the sea with poison ink before retreating to caverns leagues deep. Sailors who name it do so in whispers.
Behavior
- Drifts at depth, then jets forward in explosive bursts to ambush
- Wraps multiple arms around prey, dragging it to the central beak
- Squirts a blinding ink cloud to cover retreat or to poison pursuers
- The kraken stirs storms and currents and herds fish toward its lair
- Tentacles are too tough to tear free and must be hacked off one by one
Abilities
- Tentacle Grasp. Many arms grab and pin a target, constricting steadily while it holds.
- Crushing Beak. A single bite from the horned maw does grievous damage.
- Ink Cloud. Blacks out the water; a kraken's is large and venomous.
- Sea-Master (kraken only). Calms or whips the waves, controls currents, and lures fish.
