Most molds are harmless fuzz on damp stone or spoiled food, but a few woolly underground strains turn lethal. Brown mold spreads in cold, dripping caverns and feeds on heat itself; step too close and it leeches the warmth from your blood, chilling flesh to numbness. Worse, fire only feeds it, a careless torch can make a patch swell to many times its size. Russet mold breathes a constant haze of rust-coloured spores that foul the lungs and seed a lingering but curable sickness. Pale yellow mold is the deadliest: jostle it and it bursts into a choking poison cloud. None of these can move or chase; they are creeping hazards of the deep dark, killing the unwary who blunder into reach rather than hunting.

Behavior

  • Sessile: never moves, lurking as a patch on floor, wall, or rotting matter.
  • Brown mold drains body heat from anything within a few paces.
  • Brown mold grows explosively if exposed to torch, oil, or fire magic.
  • Russet mold sheds infectious spores; yellow mold puffs poison when disturbed.
  • Killed only by the right element, cold, fire, salt, acid, or strong drink, by strain.

Abilities

  • Heat Drain (brown). Saps warmth from nearby living creatures, dealing cold damage over time.
  • Spore Cloud (russet/yellow). Releases poisonous or sickening spores when fed or jostled.
  • Elemental Ward. Each strain shrugs off most weapons and is undone only by its specific weakness.

Drops & Crafting

  • Spore clusters (alchemical poison or incense reagent)
  • Dried mold matter for fumigation or fungal cultivation
  • Russet/yellow spores for noxious smoke bombs (handle with care)
  • Cold-touched residue from brown mold (preserves perishables)
