Tirawen

The mind-rot creeper is a sprawling, light-green climbing vine with ivy-like leaves and orchid-shaped blooms splashed with purple, all fed by a single bulbous root just beneath the soil. While dormant it gives off a sweet, drowsy perfume that masks its true nature. When a warm-bodied creature wanders within reach, the nearest flowers swivel to face it and puff a cloud of entrancing pollen. A victim who breathes it deep is lulled into a daze and stumbles willingly into the tangle, where a mat of hungry tendrils seizes the body and feeds on it, sapping strength and mana while the pollen keeps its prey groggy. Those who break free shake off the daze once clear of the pollen. Blade and fire can clear the vines, but it regrows unless the buried root is destroyed.

Behavior

Lies dormant and fragrant until prey strays within about ten feet
Turns its blooms toward the target and releases narcotic pollen
Lets the entranced victim walk in, then snares it with rooting tendrils
Buries the belongings of its prey in the soil around its root
Regrows from the root unless that bulb is dug up and ruined

Abilities

Entrancing Pollen. A puff of narcotic spores that charms and lures prey into the vine.
Root Snare. Tendrils seize and hold a captured victim fast.
Draining Tendrils. Saps a snared victim's stamina and mana while it feeds; the drain stops once the victim escapes and recovers with rest.
Regeneration. Sprouts anew from the buried root after the vines are cut.
Mind Ward. Immune to charm, sleep and other mind-affecting magic.
