The oozes, slimes, and jellies are mindless, amorphous predators that haunt damp underground passages, breaking flesh, wood, metal, and bone down into slurry. The ochre jelly is a great translucent amoeba that seeps under doors and clings to ceilings before dropping on prey; its secretions melt flesh, and a lightning strike merely splits it into smaller jellies. The gray ooze mimics wet stone and eats at armour and blades on contact, wearing their durability down and leaving them briefly weakened. The crystal ooze lurks near-invisible in dim water. The cube ooze is a transparent crawling block that fills a corridor, briefly immobilising and absorbing whatever it engulfs. Green slime drips from above, turning living tissue into more slime. All are slow, patient, and almost impossible to drive off once they take residence.
Behavior
- Creeps, drips, and oozes along floors, walls, and ceilings in search of organic matter
- Senses prey by vibration and contact rather than sight or sound
- Engulfs or smothers victims, dissolving them where they stand
- Splits into smaller copies when cut or shocked rather than dying outright
- Resists many spells, heat, and cold; vulnerable to crushing blows and lightning
- Cannot pursue; lethal only to the careless who stumble into reach
Abilities
- Corrosive Touch. Burns flesh and wears down leather, wood, and metal that lingers against its body, sapping gear durability and briefly weakening armour and weapons.
- Engulf & Immobilise. Surrounds prey, holding it fast for a few seconds while it digests.
- Split. Divides into lesser oozes when struck by lightning or chopped apart.
- Camouflage. Mimics wet rock or clear water, nearly invisible until touched.
Drops & Crafting
- Caustic residue (acid for tanning, etching, leaching ore)
- Dissolving enzyme (alchemical solvent)
- Slime gel (reagent base)
- Undigested coins, gems, and bones recovered from the mass
- Corrosive sludge for metal scoring
