Owl / Giant Owl

Owls are silent nocturnal hunters with broad heads, large forward-facing eyes, hooked beaks, and feathered wings that beat almost without sound. Common owls range from sparrow-sized to larger horned kinds spanning several feet; they take rodents, frogs, insects, and small birds in a gliding swoop, and their muffled flight means prey rarely hears them coming. By day their sight fails and they roost hidden in hollows, easily startled from cover. The giant owl is a far rarer beast, its wingspan reaching twenty feet, clever and watchful as it hunts hares and large fowl across remote wilds. Giant owls are suspicious of intruders but may tolerate those who mean no harm, guarding their nests fiercely against anything that threatens their young.
