Special
Water weird: rises as a serpent and strikes as a powerful creature; a struck victim can be pulled under and held down to drown unless it breaks free; immune to most weapons (sharp blades barely scratch it, cold merely slows it, purifying its water slays it), and it re-forms moments after being disrupted.

A water elemental serpent is a spirit of living water that lurks unseen within a basin, well or pond. To any glance it is only still water, until a creature draws near and the surface gathers itself upward into a glistening serpent that strikes and coils. Anything it seizes is yanked beneath the surface to drown, the elemental feeding on the spilled life-essence. Blades pass through it almost harmlessly; only blunt blows or purifying its water can unmake it, while cold merely slows it. Cunning and chaotic, it is often a captive bound to a pool by a sorcerer and watches always for a chance to slip its leash.

Behavior

  • Hides motionless, indistinguishable from ordinary water
  • Rises into a lashing serpentine column when prey comes within reach
  • Drags victims under and holds them down to drown
  • Re-forms after being scattered, resuming the attack
  • Can be reasoned with by the clever, though its bargains are never sure

Abilities

  • Drowning Coils. Pulls a grabbed victim underwater; escape requires breaking free before breath runs out.
  • Fluid Body. Sharp weapons barely harm it; blunt force is far more effective, while cold only slows it.
  • Re-Form. When dispersed it reconstitutes after a moment rather than dying outright.
  • Pure-Water Bane. Magically purifying its water annihilates it instantly.

Drops & Crafting

  • Distilled water-essence (alchemical reagent)
  • Elemental binding-stone (if captured rather than slain)
  • Purified water residue (preserving, brewing)
  • Mineral silt and shells left in its drained basin
