A great tawny lion the size of an ox, bearing the broad feathered wings of an eagle and a solemn, bearded human face. Golden-furred and dignified, these beasts adopt forgotten hilltop shrines and ruined temples of warm lands as sworn wards. They roam in small prides, gliding silently over the surrounding wastes to drive back marauding predators and raiders. Travelers of honest intent are met with grave courtesy; the cruel are warned once, then torn from the sky. Larger elder specimens range farther and wield deeper protective magic. In play they serve as guardians of holy ruins and rare allies, formidable to provoke, generous to the worthy.
Behavior
- Patrols a wide territory from the air, returning each dawn to its chosen ruin.
- Lives in structured prides; elders lead and coordinate defense by silent signals.
